The Capacity Shift

You know how to handle a lot. That may be exactly why you are  carrying too much.

Six weeks to clearer decisions, boundaries you can hold without over-explaining, and steadiness that stays with you when pressure rises.

Six Tuesdays · Oct 27 - Dec 1, 2026

This May Be the Moment You're In

You’re capable, committed, and often relied upon. You may be noticing that the cost of leadership has changed.

You anticipate problems. You manage relationships. You step in when something needs doing, and things keep moving because of it.

Capability becomes over-responsibility. Decisions get second-guessed. Boundaries need explaining. Other people's reactions become yours to manage, and the day follows you home.

You may already know exactly what you want to change. You may have known for a long time.

And still find yourself repeating the pattern.

Your leadership requires a deeper level of thinking, reflection and regulation

That is not a discipline problem, and it is not a knowledge problem. It is a sign that something underneath is holding the pattern in place.

THE REFRAME

What if the pattern you are trying to change is also protecting you?

Using Immunity to Change, adult development, and emotional intelligence, we look beneath behaviour to the hidden commitments and assumptions that keep even highly self-aware women stuck.

This is not about becoming less caring or less responsible. It's learning to care without carrying, stay connected without abandoning yourself, and trust your judgment when others disagree.

It is developing the capacity to disappoint others without abandoning yourself.

WHAT CHANGES

  • Stop over-functioning without becoming detached

  • Set boundaries without guilt or over-explaining

  • Speak more clearly without replaying every word afterward

  • Reduce rumination after difficult conversations

  • Build self-trust from the inside out

  • Lead with more steadiness under pressure

Not sure whether this is your work right now?

That is exactly what the conversation is for. Twenty minutes, and I'll tell you honestly, including if the answer is no.

What Makes This Cohort Different

This is not a networking group, a motivational circle or another leadership program that gives you more strategies to perform.

The Capacity Shift is a developmental coaching experience.

Together, we look beneath the surface at the beliefs, assumptions, and protective patterns that shape how you lead, respond, decide, communicate, and relate under pressure.

The goal is to build capacity.

The capacity to pause.
The capacity to tell the truth.
The capacity to hold complexity.
The capacity to disappoint others without abandoning yourself.
The capacity to care deeply without carrying everything.

The capacity to let others sit in discomfort.

The capacity to lead from your values with steadiness, clarity, and courage.

The 6-Week Structure

How The Work Moves

Before we begin - Private 30-minute session. We map where you are, what you want to shift, and what has held it in place.

Week 1 - Patterns Beneath the Surface -Name the change you want, and why insight alone has not produced it.

Week 2 - What Are You Protecting?  Surface the hidden commitments that keep familiar behaviour repeating itself.

Week 3 - Assumptions Running the Show - Uncover the beliefs quietly shaping your decisions, relationships, and reactions.

Week 4 - Testing What You Believe - Design your first real-world experiment, a small, safe test that replaces assumption with evidence.

After you run your test - Private 30-minute session. We debrief what actually happened, what surprised you, and what the evidence may be revealing about the assumption beneath the pattern.

Week 5 - Boundaries, Self-Trust & Voice -Bring what your test revealed, then run a second. Stay connected to yourself when others disagree, react, or expect more and say it anyway.

Week 6 - The Capacity Shift -Integrate what the experiments taught you and build a practice that continues long after the cohort ends.

This is not six weeks of learning more about what you should do. It's six weeks of understanding what makes it difficult to do what you already know.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is The Capacity Shift for?

The Capacity Shift is for women in leadership, healthcare, education, business, entrepreneurship, executive roles, management, or high-responsibility professional roles who want to lead with more clarity, steadiness, boundaries, and self-trust.

Do I need to have an executive title?

No. Many women carry significant leadership responsibility without a formal executive title. This cohort is for women who lead people, decisions, relationships, systems, organizations, families, or change.

Is this coaching or a course?

This is a small-group coaching experience. There is structure, teaching, reflection, and practice, but the focus is developmental coaching rather than passive learning.

Is this therapy?

No. This is coaching and developmental work. It focuses on leadership capacity, boundaries, communication, self-trust, emotional steadiness, and the patterns that shape how you lead.

What if I am not sure I am ready for a cohort?

That is completely normal. You can begin with a discovery call or join the interest list before making a decision.

Is the cohort virtual?

Yes. The cohort is virtual and available to women in Alberta, across Canada, and throughout North America.

How many women are in the cohort?

The group is intentionally small with 8 participants, so there is space for reflection, conversation, and meaningful practice.

What if I prefer private coaching?

Private coaching may be a better fit if you want confidential, individualized support. Mary also offers individual coaching for women leaders and high-responsibility professionals.

ABOUT MARY

I work with women who are very good at carrying a great deal, and who've begun to notice what it costs them.

I spent more than two decades as a consultant and administrative leader in a role where being the one who held everything together was the job. I was good at it. I also know what it costs, and how long you can carry it before you notice. That's why this work matters to me not as a theory about over-functioning, but as something I've had to learn my own way out of.
